Smart-Shopping

Let's be honest for a minute, it's really hard to escape from fast fashion and its appeal. It's there, it's pretty, it makes you feel confident and (fake) happy - kinda like alcohol.

But despite its blinding magic, fast fashion and the constant need for new that we feel (also know as consumerism) has more than a handful of issues.
So, it is becoming (even more) important to be a conscient buyer and a smart one too. Here are my tips.

1 - Think of 3 to 5 pieces you already own that would match with this
Yes, those sparkling purple velvet pants you saw in Zara are cute as hell, but do they really match the stuff you wear on a daily basis? Think about what you could match with the item you're thinking of buying and decide if it's really worth the purchase.

2 - Categorize into casual, fancy or manageable
What type of clothing is your wardobe missing? If it's comfy pants and sneakers, opt for more casual items. If you need a couple of dresses to go to work dinners and dates, fancier clothing is your space of maneuver. If you're like me though, and you miss a tiny bit of both, search for pieces you could alter with the rest of your outfit - like a blazer or a maxi skirt.

3 - Lists, lists, lists
Can anyone love making lists more than me? It's improbable but not impossible.
Seriously though, if you're in a bit of budget or if you simply don't want to waste money on stuff you don't need, making a list is going to save your ass. That way, you have an idea of the things you can and actually need to spend money on.

4 - Spoil yourself (once in a while)
Look, being a smart buyer is important and a really good thing to put effort into. Nevertheless, buying only what you need - and not what you want - can be a bit of a headache, at least in the beginning.
So, try to estabilish a monthly amount you can spend on frivolous stuff (5€ to 7€ is a good commitment, but it obviously depends on your monthly budget) and buy yourself a nice bath bomb or lipstick every now and then.

5 - Think before you buy
Do you really like this piece of clothing or you just like the idea of having something new? If you're not entirely sure, ask a shop worker to put it aside for a day or two and go home and think about it. Return to the store if you found yourself wishing you had bought it. If not, well... Thank heavens you didn't wast money!

And that's about it. Really, these are simple rules to keep in mind but they honestly do make a diference. Also, don't forget to check if the products you're buying are cruelty free and if the clothing shops you like to shop in use child labour (if so, try to avoid them)! Happy (smart) shopping, loves!
